Theory of collision-dominated dust voids in plasmas.
A dust void, i.e., the dust-free region in a dusty plasma, results from the balance of the electrostatic and plasma (such as the ion drag) forces acting on a dust particle. The properties of dust voids depend on the ratio of the void size to the mean free path of plasma ions colliding with neutral species of a weakly ionized plasma. For many plasma-processing and plasma-crystal experiments, the...
متن کاملKinetic theory of flowing, magnetized plasma
This work derives a drift-kinetic equation—that is, a kinetic equation for guiding-center motion—for a magnetized plasma whose flow velocity is comparable to its thermal speed. Such rapidly flowing plasmas play an increasingly important role in several areas of plasma physics research. For example, they occur in a number of astrophysical phenomena, such as galactic jets; they play a key role in...
متن کاملKinetic Theory of Non-abelian Plasma: a Non-minimal Model
The self-consistent system of master equations describing the kinetics of a relativistic non-Abelian plasma, influenced by curvature interactions, is formulated. Non-minimal (curvature induced) coupling is shown to modify all the subsystems of the model: the gauge field equations, the gravity field equations and the kinetic equation for colored particles.
متن کاملThermodynamic structure of collision-dominated expanding plasma: Heating of interplanetary coronal mass ejections
[1] We investigate the thermodynamic structure of interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) using combined surveys of the ejecta between 0.3 and 20 AU. ICMEs are shown to have a moderate expansion in the solar wind compared with theoretical predictions. The expansion seems to be governed by a polytrope with g 1.3 in this distance range. We find that Coulomb collisions are important contribu...
متن کاملRadiation from collision-dominated relativistic pair fireballs
It is generally accepted that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are initiated by a relativistic pair fireball, converting its internal energy into kinetic energy of a relativistically moving plasmoid and subsequently into radiation. Here, we investigate the early stages of this evolution, after the pair fireball has become optically thin to γγ pair production. We show that for a short period of time, ∼ 0...
